They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and with good reason. What you eat in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your meals for the day and oddly, more than anything, it has a big effect on your morning mood. The nutrition you get first thing in the morning kick starts your body and ensures that it's running well the rest of the day. So, of course, it makes sense to pay more attention to what you're eating for breakfast, as opposed to running out of the door with a single buttered toast in your hands. A healthier, more balanced breakfast is what our bodies crave and it's about time we give it to them.

We've all tried the various alternatives of avocado toast and for most of us, the tried and tested cereal or muesli is the safest option. But we think it's time to try a smoothie bowl. Almost like a bowl of cereal on (the healthiest ever) steroids, a smoothie bowl is basically a smoothie you can eat with a spoon. It's made with, quite literally, whatever frozen (using them frozen is key to the texture) fruits or vegetables suit your taste buds, milk (mostly almond or soy, but you can use regular too), and nuts, seeds, granola and more fruits to top it all off.

Undoubtedly one of the most Instagrammable foods ever, a smoothie bowl packs a punch of nutrients that is perfect to get you through the day. Plus, it's SO beautiful-looking that all your morning grumpiness will just get washed away. If you don't already feel like trying it, these pictures might help. (While some of them might look too elaborate and beautiful to eat, remember you don't have to go overboard, it's all going to end up in your tummy anyway!)
