Jesinta Franklin has been a wellness devotee since, well, forever. She even released a book in 2016, aptly titled ‘Live A Beautiful Life’, outlining her mindfulness, health and beauty routine. So how has the model’s lifestyle changed since becoming a mother-of-two? Body+Soul speaks to Franklin to find out.

Jesinta Franklin is one of those people who has a certain glow about her.

The model and former Miss Universe Australia is known for her radiant complexion and refreshingly down-to-earth personality, especially when it comes to beauty and skincare. But as the 30-year-old explains, her routine has become even more low-key since becoming a mum to her two children: Tullulah and Rocky.

Once upon a time, she would wake up and apply her skincare routine; whereas now, she’s more concerned about giving her body the nutrients it needs, and staying mindful of what’s going on in her head.

Speaking to Body+Soul, Franklin shares in the ins and outs of her morning routine:

Because my husband and I both have such busy schedules, routine not only for us but also the kids is super important. With two young children, life can be chaotic and finding time for yourself is not always easy, so the consistency a routine creates allows us to be able to reduce some of the chaos that comes with a busy household.

Having a routine creates more space in your day and allows for better use of our time. It means I can schedule in PT sessions or work meetings and find the time to do things not only for my physical but also mental wellbeing.

My daily wellness routine doesn’t always look the same as things can change quickly with kids and sometimes, I have to cancel a PT session and other appointments (for example: a sports massage or acupuncture). However, I do have my non-negotiables which are:

Step one: As soon as I wake up, I have a glass of water with a sachet of Vida Glow Natural Marine Collagen. I don’t have time for fancy skincare routines so taking care of my skin from the inside out is super important. I love that there are so many different flavours to choose from and the small sachets make it easy to pack in my handbag for those busy days or when I am travelling. It’s my beauty on the go.

Step two: If something upsets me, I speak up about it. This means I don’t take up space in my mind by overthinking things or letting things build up as I deal with them as they arise. I go to bed feeling good and wake up ready to take on the new day as my mind is free from worrying about the small things. Wellness isn’t just about what we eat or how we workout – it’s also what goes on in our minds and how we deal with things in day-to-day life.

There is not as much time now to be wedded to a wellness routine; it’s now more about having practices that are embedded into daily life. Life is busy and my days are always full, so my wellness routine needs to be able to work into my everyday lifestyle with ease and efficiency.

I look after my health from the inside out which means being consistent with taking my vitamins, collagen, staying hydrated and working in times to fit movement and fitness into my day. I recently purchased a Peloton bike to make fitting in even a 10-minute workout possible while the kids have a nap or go down for the night. My commitment to wellness has to be more efficient now as time to myself is very precious now.

When I am busy with work it is very easy to let things slide, especially prior to having children when I was travelling not only domestically but also internationally and rarely taking days off. There was a time when my work schedule was so jam packed, I would skip meals, not get enough sleep, or forget to pack my vitamins or supplements and after a while that really had an impact on my health. I was running off adrenaline and burning the candle at both ends without taking proper care of myself and it had a big impact on my health. I truly believe that my non-stop travel and work schedule had a big part to play in my fertility struggles. It was a good lesson in learning to put health first and knowing that our bodies are precious and need to be taken care of.
